District 49 Education & Training

Toastmasters International™ educational programs are the foundation of Toastmasters. Through the completion of communication and leadership projects using Toastmasters project manuals, members develop improved communication skills and practice leadership skills in a supportive environment of self-improvement with other Toastmasters club members.

How can I help?
bicycle

• Make sure your club officers attend District Training for Club Officers at least twice each year - once in the summer (June-August) and winter (December - February). Check the District Calendar for dates.
• Orient new members using the Welcome to Toastmasters DVD (Available from Toastmasters International (Item #244DVD)
• Assign a mentor to each new member as soon as they join.
• Volunteer to be a trainer at the Area, Division or District level.
• Track your Club members educational progress and make sure they know where they are.
• Assign meeting roles quarterly so members know well in advance when they have to speak or perform other duties.
• Attend District 49's Spring and Fall Conferences where excellent educational programs offerred.
• Encourage the use of the Competent Leader project manual by all members at all meetings.

How do the Toastmasters Educational and Leadership Programs Work?

The Toastmasters program involve two tracks that members can use to improve their leadership and communication skills. Both the Leadrship track and the Communication track can be worked on at the same time as the member practices and hones their skills in each area. Remember to bring your manuals for each track to every meeting.

The Toastmasters Competent Leader Award

Cl Manual

After more than a two year transition, the new Competent Leader (CL) award will be manadatory for all Toastmasters who have not applied for the old Competent Leader (OCL) Award by June 20 2008. If you did not complete at least a six-month term (either July-December or January -June) as a club officer by December 31, 2007, you will need to complete the new CL program as part of your progress to earning the Distinguished Toastmaster Award.

You can get a handy checklist to use with your CL manual, to keep track of your progress by clicking here. Please note, the checlklist does not replace the manual; bring your manual to meetings so another club member can provide you with the required written evaluation of each leadership displayed in carrying out your meeting role.
